Marvel Preview #11 - John Byrne, Jim Starlin art

Marvel Preview magazine presents Star Lord #11, 1977 - Jim Starlin's portrait of the galactic hero (inside front cover) has a triumphant and iconic quality to it. John Byrne takes this further in his main feature story. Thirty plus pages of exceptional drawings are accompanied by varying page layouts and precise pacing. Byrne's opening splash is both dramatic and beautiful in its symmetry. His following two-page spread gives a wide panoramic view of a remote alien landscape. The entire story is a stunning showcase of the artist's talent, further enhanced by the inks of Terry Austin. Other artists in this issue include Ken Barr (cover loosely based on a Byrne interior panel). The interior page shown above is by Byrne. This is number 1 of 1 Marvel Preview issues with Byrne art and/or covers and number 2 of 4 Marvel Preview issues with Starlin art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Byrne, Starlin or Marvel Preview issues. See also this blog's Starlin checklist or Top 10 Starlin comics.

Possibly the finest Marvel comic ever. Definitely the best Marvel b&w effort.

Came "this close" to being the subject of my 1000th post.
