Matt Slade Gunfighter #2 |
Matt Slade Gunfighter v1 #2, 1956 - A tough-looking hombre ambles into a saloon, intent on making trouble. Surprisingly, he's challenged by his quiet and considerably smaller partner.
Al Williamson's backgrounds are painterly but a bit too minimalist. Fortunately, this is largely offset by the impressive figure drawing skills he's well known for. This story was later reprinted in
Western Gunfighters v2 #18. Williamson would also redraw the same story (with some improvements) several years later in
Kid Colt Outlaw #89. Other artists in this golden age comic include Fred Kida and Arnold Roth. Cover by Joe Maneely. This is 2 of 2
