Steve Ditko
Blue Beetle v5 #2, 1967 - Not often seen in second issues, this issue explains the origin of the new Blue Beetle and the transition from the older, golden age version. Both of the Steve Ditko stories (including The Question back-up tale) are adversely affected by too many squeezed-in small panels. The lead story, however, compensates with a large, dramatic opening panel and roomier pages toward the end. Even a few small panels unexpectedly show a high level of craftsmanship. Most impressive is the splash on page ten, a portrait of Blue Beetle on a background of sketched equipment and gadgetry. Ditko proudly and prominently signs his name on the lower right hand side. This is 2 of 5 Blue Beetle issues by Ditko.

40+ years later this comic was turned into an episode of Batman Brave and the Bold (with a more modern Beetle).
