Vampirella #59 - Alex Nino art

Vampirella #59
Vampirella v1 #59, 1977 - In this back-up tale, a space age family settles on an alien planet, only to become threatened by its monstrous inhabitants. Carmine Infantino, famed silver age Flash artist, illustrates one of many tales he did for Warren Publishing. Alex Nino provides the inks, eventually dominating the pencils. While the layouts are clearly Infantino, Nino's rich textural approach gives the story added dimension and panache. Each page is meticulously rendered and the artist's style is most evident on the final two pages (especially the last panel on page 53). Other artists in this bronze age magazine include Leopold Sanchez, Martin Salvador, Leo Duranona and Jose Ortiz. This is 1 of 5 Vampirella issues by Nino.

Alex Nino is one of the best artists to have worked at Warren. Great storytelling with style and panache!

It's odd seeing him work over Infantino, but it's a very interesting mix. It absolutely comes out looking more like Nino than Infantino, but Infantino's classic aesthics + Nino stylings gives us a page that has a Wally Wood sort of feel to it (at least in the bottom tier).

If you're thinking of the Eiser/Wood Spirit stuff from the 1950s, I see your point. Similar degree of detailing.
