Rex Allen #20 - Russ Manning art

Rex Allen v1 #20, 1956 - A gang of thieves conspire with the town's postmaster in this Russ Manning tale, his first on the series. The drawings are done in the artist's earliest style, with more linework and less usage of graphic shapes and shadows. He has not yet discovered the signature style he would become known for on title such as Magnus and Tarzan. Overall the renderings are more textural and flat, a far cry from the slickness of his later, more recognizable work. Despite this, the illustrations are professional, adequate, and stand out from the remainder of the book. This is number 1 of 5 Rex Allen issues with Manning art and/or covers.
