Anchor Andrews #1 - Matt Baker art

Anchor Andrews #1, 1953 - This one-shot issue features a bumbling sailor and his misadventures, a comedic character not uncommon during the golden age. The back-up Canteen Kate tale is similar in tone, but with more sophistication and savvy. Impeccably drawn by Matt Baker, her stories first appeared in the war title Fightin' Marines before graduating to her own self-titled (and short lived) series. Consistent with those previous works, this effort by Baker balances realism and humor without sacrificing comedic timing. This is number 1 of 1 Anchor Andrews issues with Baker art and/or covers. See today's posts, more Baker or Canteen Kate issues. See also this blog's Matt Baker checklist.
