Vampirella #5 - Jeff Jones art, Frank Frazetta cover

Vampirella v1 #5 warren magazine cover art by Frank Frazetta
Frank Frazetta
Vampirella v1 #5, 1970 - A stone age couple brace themselves from a dinosaur poised to attack. Though beautifully painted, Frank Frazetta falls short in defining relative scale and distance. Is the creature larger yet farther away? or closer and smaller? Inside, Jeff Jones' first story art on the series is admirable for an early work. His graphic approach works well in a horror tale with sparse dialogue. Some panels could have benefited from more details, but the minimal title splash is powerfully claustrophobic. Other artists in this bronze age magazine include Tom Sutton and Mike Royer. This 2 of 5 Vampirella issues by Frazetta and 2 of 8 Vampirella issues by Jones.
