Frontline Combat #1 |
Frontline Combat v1 #1, 1951 - One of two seminal war titles published by EC, the series would influence the genre for decades to come. In
Wally Wood's tale, the captain of a Nazi submarine is left behind by his crew. Undulating ocean waves and explosions benefit from the artist's meticulous style. On the opening panel, the scene of sunken u-boat is enhanced by various objects bleeding into the borders. Wood's story from this first issue was later reprinted in
Frontline Combat v2 #1. This issue also includes cover artwork by Russ Heath, Jack Davis and John Severin. Cover by Harvey Kurtzman. This is 1 of 13
