Ripley's Believe It or Not v2 #1 - Al Williamson, Wally Wood art

Ripley's Believe It or Not v2 #1, 1965 - One of Gold Key publishing's longest running mystery titles, this first edition features ghost stories inspired by the famous single-panel newspaper strip. The "authentic" claim helps this distinguish this series from other similarly-themed mystery comics by the same publisher. Wally Wood, in his only contribution to Ripley's, finely details the story of an 1800s-era sailing vessel and its mysterious circumstances. Despite only four pages, his talent is evident on many panels, including scenes of churning ocean waves. Al Williamson does an equally splendid job on his story of a man tormented by an ancient Egyptian curse. The drawings are crisp and tightly delineated. Both stories are reprinted in Ripley's Believe It or Not v2 #80. Other artists in this issue includes George Evans and Frank Bolle. The interior page shown above is by Williamson. This is number 1 of 1 Ripley's Believe It or Not issues with Williamson art and/or covers and number 1 of 1 Ripley's Believe It or Not issues with Wood art and/or covers.
