Happy Comics #33 - Frank Frazetta art

Happy Comics #33

Happy Comics v1 #33, 1949 - No stranger to funny animal comics, Frank Frazetta provides artwork for two text stories and two features. In "Diamonds and Pebbles", a poor young woman is abused by her mother and sister when a fairy comes to her aid. Frazetta fills the pages with idyllic settings populated with stereotypical fantasy characters. Many of the panels are impressively detailed, comparable to his best work in other genres. Other artists in this golden age comic include Kin Platt. Cover by Vince Fago. This is 13 of 17 Happy Comics issues by Frazetta.

What a find! I hunted this one down- that Frazetta story is beautiful- Prince Valiant makes a cameo at the end! I wonder if the story was done for a non-funny-animal book, it seems out of place. I like the Uncle Fuzzy artist (the first Fuzzy story). He reminds me of Walt Kelly.
The cover is a tragedy.

I agree, the reference to Hal Foster's Prince Valiant looks pretty obvious, but I wonder if all depictions of princes at the time were similar due to Foster's influence.
