Giant-size Defenders #3 - Jim Starlin / Don Newton art + 1st Korvac

Giant-size Defenders #3
Giant-size Defenders v1 #3, 1974 - Daredevil joins the Defenders against alien opponents in a consequential game between the Grandmaster and the Prime Mover. Jim Starlin is credited with the layouts, but his contribution seems more prominent. Along with Al Milgrom and Jim Mooney, Don Newton shares the pencilling and inking chores. His distinctive style, which appears on pages 14-19, 31-36, 38 and 39, adds a nice fluidity to the story (see interior page below). This issue also marks the first appearance of Korvac, a man-machine cyborg who would later threaten both the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. Cover by Ron Wilson. This is 1 of 1 Giant-size Defenders issues by Newton and 2 of 2 Giant-size Defenders issues by Starlin. /// key 1st appearance Korvac
