Brave and the Bold #84 - Neal Adams art & cover, non-attributed Joe Kubert art

Brave and the Bold v1 #84 dc comic book cover art by Neal Adams
Neal Adams
Brave and the Bold v1 #84, 1969 - Told in flashback, the Batman recalls being in London during World War Two and his first encounter with Sgt. Rock. Neal Adams' pieta-inspired cover is clearly designed for shock value. His interior pages are better, although the sequencing on the first few pages could be clearer. Overall, his pencils and inks are exquisite. Throughout the story, panels featuring Sgt. Rock and company look suspiciously similar to Joe Kubert's style. The soldiers' surge toward a Nazi tank on page 19 is the strongest evidence of Kubert's hand. This is number 8 of 17 Brave and the Bold issues with Adams art and/or covers (not including reprints) and number 33 of 33 Brave and the Bold issues with Kubert art and/or covers (not including reprints).
