Brave and the Bold v1 #84, 1969 - Told in flashback, the Batman recalls being in London during World War Two and his first encounter with Sgt. Rock.
Neal Adams'
pieta-inspired cover is clearly designed for shock value. His interior pages are better, although the sequencing on the first few pages could be clearer. Overall, his pencils and inks are exquisite. Throughout the story, panels featuring Sgt. Rock and company look suspiciously similar to Joe Kubert's style. The soldiers' surge toward a Nazi tank on page 19 is the strongest evidence of Kubert's hand. This is 8 of 17
