Donald Duck / Four Color Comics v2 #256 - Carl Barks 1940s comic book cover art
Carl Barks
Walt Disney's Donald Duck / Four Color Comics v2 #256, 1949 - After his harmless prank sends Gladstone Gander to seek treasure in the Arctic north, Donald's guilt compels him to follow and make amends. As usual, Carl Barks' illustrations are delightful, from the self-beached whale to the discovery of viking ship encased in ice. Equally amusing are the scenes prior to the travels, especially Donald's reactions over Gladstone's infuriating good luck. Barks' cover is a classic, deftly conveying the story's setting with the barest of elements. This story was later reprinted in Best of Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge #2This is number 13 of 43 Donald Duck issues with Barks art and/or covers (not including reprints). See today's posts or more Barks or Donald Duck issues. See also this blog's Carl Barks checklist.
