Uncle Scrooge #5 - Carl Barks art & cover

Carl Barks
Walt Disney's Uncle Scrooge v1 #5, 1954 - In an effort to make the 1916 quarter rare, Scrooge amasses them all and dumps them into the ocean (save one). After his sole coin becomes unsellable, Scrooge, Donald and company must find another by diving to the ocean's bottom. This terrific Carl Barks tale begins with a scheme, continues into a chase and ends in a hilarious pie fight. Later, the mood grows somber as the ducks discover the underwater city of Atlantis. The superb artwork is further enhanced by the artist's ancient architectural renderings (see interior page below). This story was later reprinted in Walt Disney Comics Digest #1. This is number 5 of 70 Uncle Scrooge issues with Barks art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Barks or Uncle Scrooge issues. See also this blog's Barks checklist.
