Star Spangled War Stories v1 #145 featuring Enemy Ace, 1969 - Barely survivng his last dogfight, the Hangman returns to decimate Von Hammer's pilots. The aerial combat scenes are among the best in comics, a testament to Joe Kubert's skill and research. In addition, Enemy Ace's recurring nightmares allow for some fantastical imagery (including mythical beasts) on pages 1-3. It's a brief but welcome change from the typical wartime carnage and destruction (see interior page below). Kubert's cover seems less enthusiastic by comparison. Other artists in this issue include Ken Barr.
