X-men #130 |
X-Men v1 #130, 1980 -
Dazzler, a disco/nightclub singer, is told by the X-men that her light-emitting powers are the result of being a mutant. Almost immediately, the three of them are attacked by heavily armed forces. Led by
Sebastian Shaw, the Hellfire Club (in shadow) monitors events from afar. Compared to the garish cover,
John Byrne's oprning page is more subtle and sophisticated. Cyclops, Phoenix and Nightcrawler emerge from a limo parked in a seedy New York City neighborhood. The story title is rendered in neon, perfectly foreshadowing the new heroine. Byrne's smooth streamlining enhances the storytelling without sacrificing the artwork. Cover by John Romita Jr. and Terry Austin. This is 22 of 35
X-men issues by
Byrne. Dazzler would soon appear in her own self-titled
series. ///
