House of Mystery #191 - Neal Adams cover, Bernie Wrightson art

Neal Adams
House of Mystery v1 #191, 1971 - An intriguing theme, this twisted Pinocchio cover is poorly laid out by Neal Adams. Too much negative space in the center serves as a distraction to the whole. In Bernie Wrightson's tale, a couple hears strange sounds in the dead of night and takes precautions against a possible burglar. Despite only three pages, the artwork is confidently drawn with sensitive brushwork. Wrightson's mastery of lighting and contrast is strongly evident here. This story was later reprinted in Limited Collectors' Edition C-43 and Roots of the Swamp Thing #3. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Bill Draut and Tony Dezuniga. This is 17 of 26 House of Mystery issues by Adams and 7 of 28 House of Mystery issues by Wrightson.
