Bernie Wrightson |
7. Swamp Thing v1 #8, 1974 - An unspeakable evil lives in the bowels of an old mine, intent on engulfing mankind into its blob-like mass. The cover is quite understated but perfectly composed with few distracting elements. Bernie Wrightson's story art is eye-catching, depicting the creature with a repugnant, viscous texture. The sequence of small insets against large backdrops on pages 16-18 is especially brilliant, expanding both context and scale. Even with tiny panels, Wrightson's talent comes to the fore. This story was later reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing #4. This is 8 of 10 Swamp Thing issues by Wrightson. /// Top 10 Wrightson comics / Wrightson gallery / original sketch
