7.
Swamp Thing v1 #8, 1974 - An unspeakable evil lives in the bowels of an old mine, intent on engulfing mankind into its blob-like mass. The cover is quite understated but perfectly composed with few distracting elements. Bernie Wrightson's story art is eye-catching, depicting the creature with a repugnant, viscous texture. The sequence of small insets against large backdrops on pages 16-18 is especially brilliant, expanding both context and scale. Even with tiny panels, Wrightson's talent comes to the fore. This story was later reprinted in
Roots of the Swamp Thing #4. This is number 8 of 10 Swamp Thing issues with Wrightson art and/or covers. This is also one of Wrightson's
Top 10 comics.
