Swamp Thing v1 #4, 1973 - Matt Cable and Abigail Arcane are rescued from a plane crash in the Scottish moors, unaware of their stowaway the Swamp Thing. Bernie Wrightson punctuates his story art with three bold splash pages, including a fog-draped manor and a werewolf's transformation. The artist cleverly hints at the monster's identity via a subtle handshake on page 10 panel 3. Wrightson's penchant for deep shadows works to his advantage, instilling the tale with a dark, foreboding mood. His style matches the genre perfectly. This story was later reprinted in DC Special Series #14 and Roots of the Swamp Thing #2. This is 4 of 10 Swamp Thing issues by Wrightson. /// Wrightson gallery / original page sketch
