Thor v1 #339, 1984 - Bestowed with a new hammer from Odin, Beta Beta-Ray makes the journey back to his own people. Perhaps not surprisingly, Thor and Lady Sif accompany him. Walt Simonson makes up for his convoluted cover with a superbly drawn story. His opening splash reveals the battle-weary heroes, precisely framed by Asgardian swords and spears. On page 9, where Lady Sif is taken by surprise by outsized attacker, the artist uses more negative space to emphasize the setting's remoteness. Page 19 is the issue's high point, presenting Beta-Ray Bill and his hammer Stormbreaker in fully costumed splendor. This is number 12 of 41 Thor issues with Simonson art and/or covers.
