Thor #338 - Walt Simonson art & cover

Thor #338, 1984 - A new masthead adorns this cover, replacing the one destroyed in the previous issue. Though it references ancient Viking runes, it looks fresh and contemporary. Walt Simonson designs a cover focused on the legendary hammer's inscription, while featuring both Thor and his new adversary Beta Ray Bill (an homage to Jack Kirby's Thor #126 cover). Inside, the opening splash depicts an anguished Thor as the manisfestation of Don Blake's emotional state. Layouts and panel sequences are thoughtfully planned throughout. The ensuing battle between two titans has both excitement and clarity. Nick Fury makes a cameo appearance toward the story's beginning. This is 12 of 41 Thor issues with Simonson art and/or covers.
