Strange Tales v1 #181 featuring Warlock, 1975 - Captured by the church Matriarch, Warlock is dropped into a strange dimension populated with clowns. The hero's descent into madness is lushly illustrated by Jim Starlin. His opening splash, full of geometric patterns and shapes, border on surrealistic. These same motifs, partially inspired by Steve Ditko, are used throughout the book (see interior page below). Starlin's closing splash of the Magus nicely segues into Warlock #9, where the saga continues. This story was later reprinted in Warlock v2 #2 and Fantasy Masterpieces v2 #11. This is 4 of 4 Strange Tales issues by Starlin. /// Starlin gallery
