Captain Action #1 - Wally Wood art + 1st appearance

Captain Action #1
Captain Action v1 #1, 1968 - Based on the Ideal action figures, DC Comics creates this short-lived series featuring Captain Action and Action Boy. The actual toy allowed the hero to transform into different characters including Superman, Batman, Spider-man and the Lone Ranger. This first issue and first appearances omits this skill for obvious copyright infringement reasons. Wally Wood does a capable job translating the characters, beginning with this obligatory origin story. Full of large, roomy panels, the pages are appropriately bold and exciting (see interior page below). Some scenes are more detailed than others, particularly where machinery is involved. Of the two full splashes inside, the page depicting Captain Action jostling aside a surprised Superman is an artistic high point. This issue also includes cover artwork by Irv Novick. This is 1 of 4 Captain Action issues by Wood. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover Captain Action, Action Boy, 1st issue

It's Jim Shooter, back then the writer on the series.
