| Maus #1 |
Maus GN (graphic novel) v1 #1, 1986 - One of the most consequential graphic novels of our time, Maus chronicles one man's journey through Nazi Germany and surviving the Holocaust. Art Spiegelman anthropomorphizes mice as Jews, cats as Germans and pigs as Poles in this deeply personal story. The themes and storytelling are no less earnest, no less grave, but the symbolism requires another level of thought and creativity from the reader. Notably, Maus is the first graphic novel to win a Pulitzer Prize. Published by Pantheon.
