Zip Comics v1 #1, 1940 - Chock full of stories, this golden age first issue contains many first appearances by mostly forgettable characters. Leading the way is Steel Sterling, who concocted his own formula that gives him super-strength and invulnerability. In separate tales, the Scarlet Avenger uses a bullet-proof cloak and paralysis gun to combat gangsters, Kalthar the Giant Man protects his African region by swallowing magic grains, Mr. Satan fights crime with apparently no super powers and Miracle Man casts spells upon evildoers. Among the non-superhero features, War Eagles, Captain Valor and Nevada Jones also make their debuts. "Steel Sterling" was written by Abner J. Sundell and drawn by Charles Biro.
