Top-Notch Comics v1 #9, 1940 - Kidnapped by the infamous Skull and his henchmen, policeman Kip Burland is left for dead in the backwoods. He's soon rescued by an old hermit, who trains him to be the ultimate crimefighter. Thus Kip is reborn as the Black Hood. This story was written by Abner J. Sundell (as Cliff Campbell) and drawn by Al Camy. The character begins regularly appearing in Top-Notch Comics. Other features in this issue include Wings Johnson, Bob Phantom, Firefly, Fran Frazer and more.
