Silver Surfer v1 #3, 1968 - Sensing the presence of a potential foe, Mephisto makes plans to entrap and destroy the Silver Surfer. First, by kidnapping his lost love Shalla Bal from her home planet. Second, by transporting her to Earth and holding her hostage. As evil incarnate, Mephisto shares many of the same attributes as Satan, including his own nether realm. This Stan Lee story is exceptionally drawn by John Buscema. Five splashes are interspersed throughout the book, including a stunning portrait of the villain on his throne. Open and closed panels are combined for variety and increased interest. Of his many Silver Surfer issues, this one ranks among the artist's best.
