Classics Illustrated v2 #56, 1962 - The first comic adaptation of the novel Toilers of the Sea was first published in 1949. This second version was updated with new dialogue, art and cover to appeal to more contemporary audiences. Angelo Torres, an early emulator of Frank Frazetta, honed his skills by the 1960s. His style became more realistic, using high contrast to achieve depth and modeling. Among a handful of works for Gilberton Publishing, this forty-five page story is the finest work of his career. /// select Torres art- - - - - - - - - -
