Barbie and Ken #nn |
Barbie and Ken v1 #NN (no number) (#1), 1962 - Based on the popular Mattel toys, this is the first time Barbie and Ken appear in comics. This first issue begins with a party of girls who begin to invent stories featuring their favorite doll. Barbie is depicted as an actual person in several occupations: flight attendant, ballerina and nurse. Norman Nodel, who drew the entire issue, does a nice job making her look "real" while still recognizable. Not so much for Ken. Marketed toward young girls, the series ran for a total of five issues.
