Jack Kirby |
Avengers v1 #2, 1963 - The
Space Phantom arrives, intent on slaying the Avengers and conquering Earth (what else?). The cover marks Ant-Man's transition into Giant Man, but
Jack Kirby's layout seems static and ill-planned. Similarly, his opening splash lacks depth and modeling (perhaps due to Paul Reinman's inks). The rest of the story art fares better, highlighting the interactions and disputes between team members. The drawings marginally improve as the tale progresses. The Hulk would abruptly leave the series but Kirby would continue on. Written by Stan Lee, this story was later reprinted in
Marvel Super-Heroes #1. This is 2 of 38
Avengers issues by
