Unexpected #137 |
The Unexpected v1 #137, 1972 - An embezzler resorts to murder in order to maintain his secrets, only to be haunted by his victim.
Wally Wood teams up again with Jerry Grandenetti, streamlining and improving upon his initial drawings. The brashness of the pencils seems to work a bit better in this case, reinforcing the murderer's deteriorating state of mind. Most impressive is page one, panel four, incorporating the title typography in an inescapable whirlpool. It may or may not have been a coincidence that writer George Kashdan used the word "Torment" in the title to suggest (appropriately enough) "torrent". Other artists in this issue include John Calnan, Mike Esposito and Jack Sparling. Cover by Nick Cardy. This is 2 of 3
