American Splendor #1 - 1st issue

American Splendor #1
American Splendor v1 #1, 1976 - Harvey Pekar's brutally frank stories see the light in this self-published first issue. His neo-realistic writing style was unique in comics and utterly jarring for its time. Drawn by different artists, the opening tale was illustrated by Robert Crumb, another pioneer of the underground comics movement. His small cover portrait (upper left) wryly sets expectations for his own fans. /// key 1st issue
