DC 100 Page Super Spectacular #5
DC 100 Page Super Spectacular v1 #5 / Love Stories, 1971 - When Linda falls for a boy from another neighborhood, her parents forbid her from seeing him. Though ethnicity is never brought up, the boy’s Polish surname seems to suggest the nature of their objection. These early DC Super Spectaculars were usually compiled reprints. This particular tale has never been sourced, suggesting that this is one of the few original stories in the book. Ric Estrada’s pencils have always had a contemporary flair and this one is no exception. Wally Wood's inks further improve the artwork with his streamlined approach. His supple style brings grace and fluidity to the majority of drawings. A few panels delve into the “good girl art” category, although this was not uncommon, even in romance comics. The interior page shown below is from a reprint. Other artists in this issue include Win Mortimer, John Romita and Mike Sekowsky. Note that a 2000 replica exists, missing the 50 cent cover price.
