X-Men v1 #10, 1965 - An incident leads the X-men to Antarctica, where they discover the lost world of the Savage Land and its primitive inhabitants. Ka-zar makes his first appearance along with his saber-tooth tiger Zabu. Jack Kirby splendidly transitions the settings from frozen tundra to tropical jungle. The artist also nicely contrasts the modern day super-heroes against dinosaurs and other extinct creatures (see interior page below). Among the many highlights are the Angel's flight from pterodactyls (page 6) and Marvel Girl's telekinetic assembly of a rifle (page 2). Written by Stan Lee, this story was reprinted in Ka-Zar #1. The jungle lord would be co-featured in Astonishing Tales and eventually had in his own self-titled series. - - - - - - - - - -
