Avengers #182 - John Byrne art

Avengers v1 #182, 1979 - Convinced they are his missing children, an old man transfer the souls of Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch into wooden puppets. John Byrne's pencils don't quite mesh with Klaus Janson's inks, resulting in still aesthetically pleasing yet strained drawings. Byrne's mastery of pacing and layout still come to the fore, but facial close-ups lose much of their distinctiveness. Other artists in this issue include Al Milgrom and Bob Layton (cover). This is number 5 of 17 Avengers issues with Byrne art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Byrne or Avengers issues. See also this blog's Byrne checklist.
