John Wayne Adventure Comics #4 |
John Wayne Adventure Comics v1 #4, 1950 -
Al Williamson and
Frank Frazetta team-up on two western stories, among their earliest collaborations in comics. In the first, a long dead panther seemingly returns from the grave to maul innocent people. The second tale chronicles the death of a rancher and the discovery of oil on his property. The stories are poorly written, made worse by Williamson's simplistic drawings and layouts. Frank Frazetta marginally enhances many of the panels, particularly on "Black Gold" (this story was later reprinted in
John Wayne Adventure Comics #29). "The Panther Man" was later reprinted in
John Wayne Adventure Comics #18. This is 3 of 6
John Wayne Adventure issues by
Frazetta and 3 of 6 John Wayne Adventure issues by
Williamson.
