Amazing Spider-man #3 - Steve Ditko art & cover

Steve Ditko
Amazing Spider-man v1 #3, 1963 - A nuclear accident fuses the metal appendages of his machine to its inventor, scientist Otto Octavius, who subsequently goes mad. Credit Steve Ditko for obscuring Dr. Octopus on the cover, adding a bit of mystery to the villain's first appearance. Inside, his splendid illustrations dominate the story. Doc Ock's snake-like arms are creatively drawn, infused with a surrealistic quality. Ditko clearly revels in this character, almost as much as Spider-man himself. This is number 3 of 38 Amazing Spider-man issues with Ditko art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Ditko or Amazing Spider-Man issues. See also this blog's Ditko checklist.
