Battleground #18 - Al Williamson art

Battleground #18
Battleground v1 #18, 1957 - How does an antiquated plane able to best a slew of newer, faster enemy jets? Al Williamson recounts this tale of Nationalist and Communist forces in China. Adeptly drawn, the artist's pencils are noticeably enhanced by Ralph Mayo's smooth workmanship. Williamson's layouts are generally straightforward, with the exception of a breathtaking flight sequence on page 2 (see interior page below). Other artists in this golden age war comic include Gene Colan, Jay Scott Pike and Joe Sinnott. Cover by Joe Maneely. This is 3 of 3 Battleground issues by Williamson.
