Jack Kirby |
Charlie Chan v1 #1, 1948 - The famed Chinese detective makes his comic book debut with this
first issue.
Jack Kirby and Joe Simon do a credible job with the cover, capturing likenesses and settings with ease. Though straightforward in layout, an abundance of details stage a memorable scene. The life preserver, table settings and wooden framing create a variety of interesting shapes. Comic book guides credit two opening splash pages to Kirby, but both are signed by Carmine Infantino. More likely Joe Simon inked these pages to account for the confusion (with perhaps Kirby layouts?). This issue also includes artwork by Bill Draut. This is 1 of 6
