Alex Toth |
Black Hood v1 #1, 1983 - This vigilante-style hero rides straight into an oncoming car, dodging gunfire along the way.
Alex Toth's scene is furious and action-packed, a cover approach not often used by the artist. Amidst the chaos, the artist also manages to insert a pretty woman in bondage, perhaps a nod to pre-code comics of the 1950s. The inset on the lower right appears to be drawn by Gray Morrow, who does a fine opening story. This issue also includes artwork by Al McWilliams. This is 1 of 3

I think Alex Toth is an "artist's artist" I actually saw him at a 1972 comic con and he was mostly approached by other artists rather than by comics fans.
Like Ditko, his work does the talking.
