Emergency #1 - John Byrne art

Emergency #1, 1975 - Charlton Comics secures the rights to the popular 1970s television show, and publishes both a magazine and regular-size comic book formats. For such an early work by John Byrne, his attempts to capture the likenesses of the actors is surprisingly good. The layouts are fast-paced, echoing the constant action of the tv episodes. Page fourteen experiments with drastically angled panels, a decent effect but perhaps used on the wrong scene. The first few pages are stronger than the rest, but overall not a bad effort indeed. Some panels were reused as small illos in text story "The Victim". This is 1 of 3 Emergency issues with Byrne art. See today's posts or more Byrne or Emergency issues.
