Durango Kid #6 |
Durango Kid v1 #6, 1950 - A French couple settles in the American frontier, only to be murdered by pirates seeking revenge and a lost treasure. Unlike previous issues, this
Frank Frazetta tale emphasizes characters over setting. On the third panel of page one, the couple's portrait looks as if copied from a photograph. The Frenchman has a an obvious resemblance to actor Errol Flynn and the wife may be Olivia de Havilland(?). The story's antagonist is a pirate captain, whose facial features are appropriately scary, even devilish. Frazetta's drawings are splendid throughout, though several panels (including the opening) would have benefitted from more complete backgrounds. This issue also includes artwork by Joe Certa (Durango Kid stories). This is 6 of 16
