Frontline Combat #2 - Wally Wood art, Harvey Kurtzman cover

Harvey Kurtzman
Frontline Combat v1 #2, 1951 - Gettysburg, the Civil War's costliest battle for both the Union and Confederacy is retold in grand style by Wally Wood. The artist illustrates the events in vivid detail while maintaining a sense of reverence. Wood puts his full effort into every panel, from the uniformed armies to the explosive cannon fire and subsequent carnage. This story was later reprinted in >Frontline Combat v2 #2. Harvey Kurtzman drew many of EC's war covers, but this adrenaline-fueled combat scene is especially good. Other artists in this golden age comic include Jack Davis and John Severin. This is 2 of 13 Frontline Combat issues by Wood. /// select Kurtzman cover / Wood gallery
