Special Marvel Edition v1 #15 featuring Master of Kung Fu, 1973 - After reprinting a selection of Thor stories from the 1960s, the series suddenly changes format beginning with this issue. Based partially on characters by author Sax Rohmer, Marvel introduces its first kung-fu hero. Jim Starlin is tasked with illustrating Master of Kung Fu's first appearance, bringing a superhero flair to the character. The cover's hand-to-hand combat scene is watched by the looming figure of Fu Manchu, whose fingers create a dynamic radiating effect. Starlin's story art is equally exciting with its impeccably designed sequences, montages and background patterns. Though the use of Chinese characters is a bit overused, overall the artwork is fresh and enthusiastic. This is number 1 of 2 Special Marvel Edition issues with Starlin art and/or covers.
