Special Marvel Edition v1 #15 featuring Master of Kung Fu, 1973 - Based partially on characters by author Sax Rohmer, Marvel introduces its first kung-fu hero. Jim Starlin is tasked with illustrating the Master of Kung Fu's first appearance, bringing a super-hero flair to the character. The cover's hand-to-hand combat scene is watched by the looming figure of Fu Manchu, whose fingers create a dynamic radiating effect. Starlin's story art is equally exciting with its impeccably designed sequences, montages and background patterns. Though his use of Chinese characters is a bit overused, overall the art is fresh and enthusiastic. Written by Steve Englehart, this series would be retitled Master of Kung Fu by issue seventeen. This is 1 of 2 Special Marvel Edition issues by Starlin. /// key 1st appearance, 1st cover, 1st origin Shang Chi as Master of Kung Fu- - - - - - - - - -
