John Byrne
Amazing Spider-Man v1 #189, 1979 - Seeking revenge on Spider-man and J. Jonah Jameson, a hidden foe sends a mummified-looking man to attack them. The layout and pacing by John Byrne is merely adequate, but his pencils become submerged beneath Jim Mooney's inks. The result is a work that's conservative and seemingly out of date. Byrne's style emerges on only a handful of panels, to little overall effect. His cover, by comparison, is more interesting, using Spider-man's figure to literally frame the scene. This is number 1 of 3 Amazing Spider-Man issues with Byrne art and/or covers.
