Bernie Wrightson dc bronze age horror 1970s comic book cover - House of Mystery #221
Bernie Wrightson
House of Mystery v1 #221, 1973Bernie Wrightson's disturbing cover places a skeleton on an otherwise festive children's merry-go-round. His accompanying story centers around an orphaned girl, a struggling circus and a talented clown. Each page is lovingly drawn, softened and modeled by Mike Kaluta's inks. This story was later reprinted in Roots of the Swamp Thing #4 and DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest #17. This splendid effort also makes an interesting comparison to Shadow #3, where Wrightson takes a turn in inking Kaluta's pencils. Other artists in this bronze age comic include Frank Thorne. This is 23 of 28 House of Mystery issues by Wrightson. /// Wrightson gallery / original page
