Strange Tales v1 #180 featuring Warlock, 1975 - Arriving on the galactic church's home planet, Warlock and his ally begin their search for the god-like Magus. Jim Starlin's costume redesign makes the character more streamlined and slightly regal. Graphically inclined shapes and textures fill the pages, bringing a complexity to the artwork overall. Among many expertly drawn scenes, Warlock's nighttime flight across a seemingly endless city (page 14) is a personal favorite. Gamora, a supporting character in the tale, makes her first appearance. This Steve Englehart story was reprinted in Warlock v2 #1, #2 and Fantasy Masterpieces v2 #10. This is 3 of 4 Strange Tales issues by Starlin. /// key 1st appearance Gamora / Starlin gallery
