Captain Action #3 - Wally Wood art

Captain Action v1 #3, 1969 - Continuing the adventures based on the Ideal action figures, the appropriately-named Dr. Evil makes his first appearance. Like the previous issue, Gil Kane and Wally Wood combine their talents to produce visually spectacular pages. From the catastrophic earthquake scenes on pages 1-3 to the hero's climactic confrontation on pages 19-24, the artwork stands out for its powerful layouts and exquisite detailed finishes. Wood's famously meticulous machinery is especially prominent on page 21. Curiously, Kane appears to have inked page 16, panels 2-4 and all of page 19. Other artists in this issue include Gil Kane and Dick Giordano (cover). This is number 3 of 4 Captain Action issues with Wood art and/or covers. See today's posts or more Wood or Captain Action issues. See also this blog's Wood checklist.
