(Walt Disney's) Summer Magic v1 #NN (no number), 1963 - Based on the Walt Disney film of the same name, a small family falls on hard times, forcing them to move from the city to a small town. Russ Manning, a veteran of several movie adaptations, produces one of his finer silver age efforts in this one-shot issue. His attentiveness to the period setting (early 1900s) is terrific, especially the clothing, interiors and automobiles. In the final panel of a housewarming party scene, Manning uses a birds-eye viewpoint, giving readers a broader scope of the environment. The decorative paper lanterns in the rafters nicely reinforce the celebratory mood. This story was later reprinted in Walt Disney Comics Digest #14 and #15. Photo cover of Hayley Mills. This is 1 of 1 Summer Magic issues by Manning. /// key Specialty issue (movie)- - - - - - - - - -
