Machine Man (limited series) v2 #2, 1984 - Herb Trimpe's layouts seem tailor-made for Barry Smith's splendid finishes, their second of three collaborations on this series. The opening splash of flying vehicles in pursuit of Machine Man displays an impressive perspective. Perhaps inspired by the film Bladerunner, the background's intricate cityscapes perfectly capture the futuristic setting. Smith enhances the story pages with precisely applied inks, culminating in the final page's introduction of the Iron Man of 2020. This copper age series was reprinted in the Machine Man trade paperback.
